Collection Auto is planning a new cluster of businesses in Streetsboro including the construction of a Volkswagen dealership. A new cluster of Collection Auto Group dealerships is in the formative stage, this time in Streetsboro near Ohio Turnpike exit 187 and the east end of Interstate 480. Collection Auto on April 1 acquired Classic Nissan Streetsboro, and it plans to buy Classic Kia Streetsboro by next month, according to Bernie Moreno, president of North Olmsted-based Collection Auto. Meanwhile, on the north side of state Route 14 across from the newly purchased dealerships, Collection Auto is preparing to build a Volkswagen dealership. Plans call for a 23,000-square-foot dealership that Streetsboro-based Geis Cos. will construct on seven acres, Moreno said. The proposal will go before Streetsboro Planning Commission on Tuesday, April 8, he said. When the new VW dealership is done, Collection Auto will shut its Volkswagen dealership in Hudson, he said, because the manufacturer wants the dealership located on a highway. “We didn't want the Volkswagen guys to be lonely, so we bought the other dealerships,” Moreno said. On a more serious note, he said it made more sense to have a cluster of dealerships together rather than have a single store at that location. The purchase also gives Collection Auto a Nissan dealership on the opposite side of town from a new location it plans to establish for its current Middleburg Heights store near I-480 in Brook Park. The Kia store will be Collection Auto's 31st store, Moreno said. Jim Brown, chairman of Mentor-based Classic Auto Group, said it plans to retain the Classic Honda dealership in Streetsboro. The Honda dealership, 900 Classic Drive, adjoins Classic Kia and the former Classic Nissan store. “It was a business decision,” Brown said of the sale. “It's difficult today to get enough good people to run the stores, and I had pretty good turnover there.
